Diamond Springs/El Dorado Firefighters Hall
1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Vicki Yorty, Executive Coordinator, called the meeting to order at approximately 1:00 p.m. Introductions were made by Directors and guests present.

Vicki introduced Jana Newman and briefly described the intent of the meeting. Jana presented information she received at a recent Defensive Space training session. She started with an informative video. She then explained how Public Resource Code (PRC) 4291 Defensible Space developed to increase from 30 feet around every structure on a property to 100 feet around every structure or to the property edge. She explained that local officials could expand the 100 ft. clearance requirement if necessary due to circumstances.

Jana explained the various sections of the Public Resource Code and how they are applied to the property occupant. The State guidelines are enforceable by CDF, USFS, and local Fire Departments. Fire Safe Council volunteers provide advise and consultation only. They cannot enforce the regulations.

Volunteers are to respect privacy and property rights at all times. Consent is required to enter property boundaries (open driveway excepted) and residences are not to be entered under any circumstances during the advise consultation.

The overall intent is to provide a lean-green-clean (LGC) zone of defensible space surrounding all structures on a property by eliminating dead, dry, and dying flammable materials. A Defensible Space guideline is available to assist the homeowner in accomplishing the clearance.

The meeting was very informational and well received by those attending. Thank you Jana!!! Job well done!!!
