El Dorado County Fire Safe Council Board of Directors Meeting
July 26, 2006
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Gold Hill Fire Station, 6051 Gold Hill Road

 

The meeting was called to order at approximately 11:00 a.m. by Penny Humphreys, Chair. Directors and guest present were: Janet Gastaldi, Lori Tuthill, Allen Jaeger, Ray Griffths, Joan Jennings, Mary Cornelison, Bill Cave, Jim Stewart, Walt Tyler, Vicki Yorty (Executive Coordinator).

Janet Gastaldi requested that Red Flag Day be added to the agenda. A motion to approve the agenda with the addition of Red Flag Day was proposed by Allen Jaeger. Second by Lori Tuthill. Approved by all present.

A motion to approve the minutes for 6-21-06 was proposed by Ray Griffiths. Second by Janet Gastaldi. Approved by all present.

Joan Jennings gave the Treasurer's report. A handout was passed around. Transition is going well.

Penny Humphreys requested that we check out the web site for items that should be removed. Look for changes and out of date information.

Allen has completed drafting and reviews of the proposed EDCFSC BOD Policies and Procedures. Allen proposed a motion to adopt the revised EDCFSC BOD Policies and Procedures as submitted. Seconded by Lori Tuthill. Approved by all present. Allen added that the document provides for changes that may be necessary in the future.

Vicki requested that a strategic planning workshop be scheduled 8-23-06 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.. Approved by all present. All satellite councils should be involved.

A copy of the proposed calendar was passed around. Jana is already receiving requests.

Allen described his observations and experiences during the recent fires along Highway 49 near his home. Defensible space was a key factor to save residences. The Log Town FSC meeting held shortly after the fire had a very good attendance.

Jim Stewart reported on efforts to develop an El Dorado Hills FSC. It has been difficult to stimulate interest and develop defensible space throughout the community.

Mary Cornelison reported that removal of fire screens from chimneys and failure to remove vegetation around propane tanks were the most noted violations of defensible space in her area.

Janet Gastaldi reported that Red Flag Day information is available through the National Weather Service Forecast Office. The information is current. Make available on the EDCFSC web site?
