Salmon Fire Contained

Camino - The Salmon Fire was contained at midnight yesterday at 108 acres. The fire began at 2:23 yesterday afternoon and burned vegetation in the area of Salmon Falls Road and Miners Valley Road in Pilot Hill. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department conducted "advisory evacuations" of residents and El Dorado County Animal Services assisted in animal evacuations in the area before the fire was contained.

CAL FIRE, the US Forest Service, El Dorado County Fire, El Dorado Hills Fire, Rescue Fire, Georgetown Fire, Garden Valley Fire, Sac Metro Fire and Sac Regional Fire all assisted in suppressing this fire quickly. "An aggressive attack on this wildland fire prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring communities. All the emergency services agencies came together quickly and efficiently to save lives and property" stated Incident Commander Division Chief Mike Kaslin who added "defensible space made the difference between homes surviving the fire and homes that would otherwise have burned to the ground."

Firefighting crews will continue to mop up the fire today and will check on the fire throughout the weekend.
