CAL FIRE Crew Readiness Exercise

Camino — Each year CAL FIRE and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) coordinate training to prepare hand crews for the upcoming fire season. This year the exercise will be at Bacchi Ranch in Garden Valley in El Dorado County on Wednesday April 25th from 9 am to 3 pm.

Annually, CAL FIRE's firefighting hand crews must pass rigorous tests outlined by CAL FIRE policy. These qualifications include equipment inspections, handline construction, physical fitness hikes, fire shelter drills and fire behavior awareness.

"With the lack of precipitation this winter, we anticipate an active fire season. Hand crews are a very critical component to our firefighting forces" states Amador-El Dorado Unit Chief Kelly Keenan. "This exercise is an excellent preseason test for everyone involved" adds Chief Keenan.
