How to get Your Neighborhood Covered with
Reflective Home Address and Street Signs Text by: Joan Darling

Steps
Find another neighbor or two and drive your roads at night just to prove to
someone else that you really do need reflective signs. Now you've created your
sign team.
Plan an evening meeting with the help of the local Fire Safe Council and fire
department and California Department of Forestry to bring as many neighbors as
possible on board. It's OK to discuss all kinds of other safety issues like fire
safety and chipping programs, etc.
Use the three options (see next page) to give all your neighbors, regardless
of finances, an opportunity to own their own reflective signs. You can make gifts
of the smaller and more economical homemade signs.
Call homeowners on each road and ask for one volunteer to be prepared to
purchase a street sign for their road. Then ask them to call on their neighbors to
help reimburse them or pass the hat at the next social event.
Allow the media to know how well you have done, especially after a year. You
deserve a pat on the back and you'll be helping spread the reflective light in the
night and perhaps the life you save may be your own.
Where to Get Signs
Option #1: Metal signs recommended by fire department

numbers that can be seen from a long distance; can be used with a 5' post,
of which, 2' is placed in ground. Costs about $35.00 or only
purchase the sign for $25.00 and place it on your own metal post
(see examples).
