BEFORE & AFTER

In preparation of the grant for roadside clearing along our evacuation routes, volunteers with the Grizzly Flats FireSafe Council have made a demonstration lot on the property of Dick and Norma Dawdy at 10020 Grizzly Flat Road.

The object of the treatment is to reduce fuels along the road system for safe ingress and egress on the primary feeder roads.

Now the community can see what a safe roadside clearing on their property might look like when their project is completed.

Although this is an on-going project and is not completely finished, it gives sufficient evidence of what a lot will look like once the roadside clearing is completed.

This project was achieved with hand thinning and chipping. The chips are scattered back throughout the project area. Take a minute to stop and enjoy the "new look" at 10020 Grizzly Flat Road.

Everyone is welcome.

Grizzly Flats Cleanup A Great Success

The community cleanup was held on June 24th and we had an outstanding turn out. There were 27 volunteers helping to unload items for the 58 residents that participated in the cleanup. We filled 1 roll-off dumpster, 3 rear-load compactors and 1 recycle truck. The vehicle abatement program took in 1 twenty-five foot trailer. Discussion for the next cleanup is already buzzing.

Please remember, if at any time you need to
report a fire or you have an emergency CALL 911!

2nd ANNUAL FIRESAFE BBG

For the second year in a row, the fundraising BBQ has been a resounding success. The July 15th event was held at the park-like property owned by Terry and Sandi Bush on Wildrose Drive. Red white and blue decorated the tables and paper lanterns illuminated the evening where over 185 neighbors enjoyed succulent barbequed pork tenderloin or chicken. Bob Signor, Captain of the Pioneer Fire Department was one of our chefs. Live music accompanied diners before dinner and recorded music kept up the mood after. The highlight of the evening was the raffle where the many varied treasures were offered up, including a handmade quilt (complete with the Grizzly Flats community street names and beautiful wilderness prints), hand woven pine needle baskets, gorgeous beaded jewelry, three themed gift baskets, bird houses made with local

historical treasures, Christmas wreaths to be made fresh for Christmas at a local tree farm, bear print stepping stones, decoupaged ceramic tiles, needle work eagle print, a quilted wall hanging, custom embroidered tee shirts and several gift certificates from local eateries. Wine was donated by eight local wineries. This year's BBQ netted almost $1000 more than last year, largely in part due to the raffle items all made by local artists. The proceeds from this fundraiser are used for educational purposes within our community to promote fire prevention awareness. The warm evening was enjoyed by all in attendance and the Grizzly Flats FireSafe Council thanks everyone for their support and participation! Make sure to watch for next years BBQ and remember only a limited number of tickets will be available.

Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance!

Defensible space is a life long endeavor. It requires some level of maintenance annually and must be continued as long as you own the property. The initial vegetation management project will take a lot of time and effort but will be worth it in the long run. Your families lives may depend on it in the event a major wildfire burns through your area. Remember it is a matter of WHEN not IF a wildfire occurs in your neighborhood.
