Diamond Springs FPD Exercise (Captain Sol Labrada & Assistant Chief Erik Peterson)

  • Captain Sol Labrada
Sol mentioned that the fire season has begun already with several fires occurring recently in the District. He spoke of the Wildfire Interface Structure Protection practice exercise to be held Monday, June 18 from 7 - 9 p.m. in the District with other local fire agencies. Fire engines will stop at individual residences and practice protecting the houses, in a simulated defense of the residence.

  • Erik Peterson, Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshall
Calfire's jurisdiction is wildland fires. The Diamond Springs/El Dorado FPD is in charge of structure protection and preventing the spread of the fire into the wildland. Station 46 in El Dorado is the closest staffed fire station to the Logtown Ridge area.

    Structure Protection and Evacuation Pre-plan
A cover letter is available which is signed by Erik Peterson to accompany the information sheets. The information will be used in case of a wildland fire and eventually will be computerized when each fire rig has a data terminal. Erik expressed his thanks to all on the Logtown FSC for their work creating the Council.

    Fire hydrants
A major goal is to identify them, perform flow rates and make sure that they are maintained. There are almost 1,000 in the District. EID (El Dorado Irrigation District) plans to develop a maintenance program. Suggestion was made to apply for a grant to deal with the hydrant location etc. Rich Englefield and Pat Dwyer volunteered to work with the new Fire District fire hydrant coordinator.

    Gates
Gates and locks will not be cut during the June 18 exercise. Locked gates impede the progress of emergency vehicles but are a fact of life. KNOX locks are available for purchase by individuals and help speed the opening of locked gates. Each fire apparatus has a KNOX key.

CWPP Update (Gene Murphy)

Good news! The document is completed. It was reviewed by each of the involved entities - Diamond Springs/El Dorado FPD, BLM, CALfire, Forest Service and El Dorado Fire Safe Council. The draft is being submitted to the Golden West CSD for review. Signatures are being obtained for the final draft. The document will be signed off and available on a CD in a month or so.

The Healthy Forest Restoration Act - a federal program, is funded with $750,000,000. BLM may apply for a grant and will utilize the Logtown CWPP.

Erik thanked Gene Murphy for his work on the CWPP - a tremendous and professional job!

Neighborhood Coordinator update (Ken Hasse)

  • Phone tree protocol will be drafted and will include "keep the message short".

  • T-shirts and caps will be purchased to identify volunteers.

  • The full neighborhood coordinate update was deferred to the next meeting because of the short time available.

  • Issue of arsonists was discussed. Keep your eyes open for any suspicious activity.

  • If you see someone burning brush on a no burn day or when burn permits have been cancelled for the season, call 911 before the fire gets out of control.

Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 10:18 AM. The next meeting will be July 14, 2007.
