Ken Hasse called the meeting to order at 9:05 AM. The attendance sheet was passed around for initials.

Announcements: The EDFSC "Gathering of the Councils" will be held at the Diamond Springs Firefighters Hall at 1:00 PM, Wednesday January 23rd. All are welcome to attend.

Projects: The following 2008 projects were established at a recent Logtown FSC Executive Board meeting.

  1. Acommunity wide green waste cleanup will be scheduled for sometime in May. At least four dumpsters will be available at locations on Quartz, Dolomite and two on Crystal Blvd. We will attempt to schedule chipping first to reduce the amount of waste in the dumpsters. Flyers will be distributed for sign-up & scheduling.

  2. The Fire Safe Council plans to place Fire Safety billboards at four locations that will be visible to most of the residents within the Logtown area. Proposed locations are Quartz/Crystal, Dolomite/Monitor, Union Mine/Maric/Church Mine junctions and the north end of Dolomite. The message will be "It's Your Responsibility" for defensible space and road frontage cleanup. Permission to use the easement areas will be required. Permission to use the Diamond Springs – El Dorado FPD, Calfire and the EDFSC logos will also be required. Red Flag warning may be incorporated with the billboards.

  3. The Logtown FSC will resume training for an inspection team and will offer defensible space "pre"-inspections on an as requested basis. Inspections results will only be forwarded to Calfire if defensible space requirements are met thus helping Calfire satisfy their "quotas".

Hydrant Checks - Rich Englefield
Hydrant inspections will resume at the South end of Crystal. An e-mail from EID staff indicated that some hydrants have been repaired or replaced this past year but that others would not be replaced because existing working hydrants met the 1000 feet spacing requirements. The information will be forwarded to Erik Peterson for follow-up. There are eight non-working hydrants in the Quartz/Stope area. The Fire Safe Council will send a letter to George Osborne requesting repair or replacement of these hydrants. Residents were encouraged to e-mail George Osborne, gwclosborne@comcast.net or to attend an EID board meeting to express their concern.

CWPP Follow-Up
There will be a meeting with Calfire, Diamond Springs-El Dorado FPD, BLM and El Dorado RCD personnel to discuss projects identified in the Logtown CWPP. The group will also tour the proposed work areas. The prospect for obtaining funding for some of this work is very good.

EDCFSC (El Dorado County Fire Safe Council) Update -Vicki Yorty
Five proposals for Title 3 funding have been submitted: FSC Operations Budget, Defensible Space Visits & Education, Public Education, Community Clean-Up & Green Waste Dumpsters and Red Flag Project. The Community Clean-Up request was for considerably more than last year. This is a popular program & funds are used up fast. A dumpster costs about $300 - $400. Funding for the chipping will be available in the next couple of months. Request for funding for CWPPs for Placerville and Pollock Pines have also been submitted.

Neighborhood Coordinator Update
A major emphasis in the neighborhoods this year will be on maintaining and improving the phone trees. Pat Dwyer suggested that phone trees could be used (and tested) along with the flyers as a means of spreading information on the community clean-up program.

Prospects for completing a phone tree in the South Crystal Blvd. Area (Black Zone) are good with increased interest and new volunteers. We still need someone from the Monitor area to work on a phone tree there.

We will be able to get fire alerts directly from Calfire's alpha system this year.

Work has been done to provide a fire truck turn around at the end of Maric Road. It will be completed with gravel in the spring.

There was some discussion about possible evacuation routes between Maric and Dolomite and from the north end of Quartz.

Mike Veimoen asked about the EID water line and a fire hydrant near the end of Oak Ridge North. A request would have to be submitted to EID and there would be significant cost.

Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at about 9:50 AM. The next meeting will be February 9, 2008.
