Ken Hasse called the meeting to order at 9:00 AM and passed the attendance sheet around.

Announcements:
The Logtown Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) has been posted on the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council web site EDCFiresafe.org Property owners are urged to check out the web site and especially to read the fuels treatment map 10 which shows proposed fuel breaks and fuel treatment. Each lot is noted.

Logtown Tour
On January 28, 2008 CalFire, representatives of the local fire districts, Rich Englefield, Vicki Yorty and Ken Hasse toured the Logtown area. Much information was obtained on the status of the area. On February 11 a meeting will be held with a representative of the major land owner at the south end of Crystal Boulevard. The same people who participated in the January 28th tour will attend. Proposed fuel breaks will be discussed. Fuel breaks isolate fires and keep them from spreading.

Hydrant Update
The hydrants on Quartz Drive are close to the required 1000 feet distance apart and are OK with the fire department. EID (El Dorado Irrigation District) will gradually replace the old style hydrants.

Prop 40 Proposal
In 2003 Proposition 40 was approved by the voters which provides funding for work to protect the water shed. Fuel breaks of a minimum 300 feet wide near Crystal Boulevard and in the Cosumnes River area are proposed. A proposal to obtain Prop 40 funding for the fuel reduction projects listed in the Logtown CWPP is being prepared.

The end of Maric has been graded and a turn around created. It will be graveled this summer.

On Mica a turn around is needed.

EDCFSC (El Dorado County Fire Safe Council) Update - Ken Hasse A Gathering of the Councils was held January 23, 2008 at the Diamond Springs/El Dorado Fire Station. Some of the items discussed were the following:

  • County wide weed abatement ordinance that had been proposed earlier will not be pursued. The EDCFSC will instead try to obtain funds to enforce existing regulations.

  • Study of building a biomass facility in Camino to generate power and reduce chipping and masticating waste. Sources of material, cost to gather and process it were discussed. Sierra Pacific lumber company in Camino has a small plant used to burn sawdust.

  • The EDCFSC Bylaws were changed to delete term limits. A presentation was made on the Angora Fire in South Lake Tahoe.

Neighborhood Coordinator update (Ken Hasse)
No formal updates were presented.

On February 8, 2008 June Gregorio attended a program presented by the El Dorado Hills Fire Protection District "Protect Your Home and Land from Wildfires." Some thoughts were presented such as box in roof eaves, foam retardant doesn’t work, redwood decks are better than vinyl ones, gutters should be free of leaves and pine needles and vegetation near a structure should be green and well watered.

The Logtown Fire Safe Council has plans to provide chippers and green waste dumpsters in May - in the Quartz and Dolomite areas.

Captains are still needed for the areas of Monitor and the south end of Crystal.

In the Sodalite and highway 49 area there is a new street with padlocked gates at both ends. This street would be available as an emergency evacuation route.

A table top evacuation drill is needed to coordinate a plan so that people can be told of routes to use in an emergency evacuation.

Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 AM. The next meeting will be March 8, 2008.
